Jolene’s been quite keen on having some of these in the garden, apparently her late Grandparents used to have them in the garden and I suppose that they are to be something of a tribute to them and to Jolene’s memory of them. It’s one of the pleasant things about plants and growing stuff, that the scent and sight of so many plants can be evocative of happy childhood memories, such as it was then that we ended up with a packet of seeds, and joy to the world it turned out that they are a hardy perennial so they may actually stand a chance at surviving in our climes … assuming I can find somewhere to plant them out!
They were originally started off in the porch (our pre-tunnel, pseudo greenhouse) which wasn’t great as it doesn’t get much light despite it’s mass of windows and to be honest I wasn’t hopeful for the seedlings, since the tunnel’s been finished though the seedlings that were in there have been shifted to their new home and they have come on in leaps and bounds since their move … so much so that we’ve actually got a few blooms on the handful of plants that survived. Come next year I’ll find a bed somewhere for them to set up permanent residence but until then:
